The Washington Times writes the following on the numbers of martyrs per year in its ‘Special on Religious Freedom under Assault’ of September 23, 2015, the day of the Pope’s visit:

“There is debate over exactly how many Christians are martyred each year worldwide. The highest estimate comes from the Center for Global Study of Christianity, which says 109,000 Christians are martyred every year. The most conservative figure comes from professor Thomas Schirrmacher of the International Society for Human Rights, who estimates that 7,000 to 8,000 Christians are killed annually for their beliefs.” (p. 6)

It is a pity, that this good conservative alternative to the Washington Post is mainly owned by the Unification Church and its leader Moon.
